I have a specialized interest with working with people impacted by relationships involving someone with a Narcissistic personality style. This interest has led me to working on becoming a certified Narcissistic Abuse Clinician (NATC)) These personality styles are often referred to as emotionally immature, toxic, antagonistic, and Narcissistic (which includes grandiose and vulnerable narcissism).

These relationships can come in many configurations; with a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, friend and boss/coworker. Here are some descriptors, and see if any of them resonate with your current and/or past relationships. Characteristics of this personality style often include: criticalness, entitlement, invalidation, reactivity and hypersensitivity to perceived slights or insults.

Common experiences of being in a relationship with this personality style are; manipulation, control, invalidation, wants/needs disregarded, degradation, lack of empathy, and gaslighting These relationships often leave people feeling confused, anxious, depressed, defeated and lonely. If any of these xxx descriptors have resonated with you and you believe that you may be in, or have been in a relationship with this personality style there is hope.

Recovery and empowerment include understanding key characteristics and dynamics of these relationships, investigating and understanding how one gets drawn into these relationships and how they get stuck. If the relationship was with a parent, recovery occurs with understanding the questions of how the parent impacted our attachment style, behavior patterns, thinking and coping strategies. Together we can find a path forward that leads to healing and transformation.
